Pozar Baths
The Baths of Loutraki, also known as Loutra Pozar, belong to the municipality of Almopia in the prefecture of Pella and are geographically located 13 km west of Aridaia while they are only 100 km from Thessaloniki. The spa town with the thermal springs is located at the foot of Mount Voras (Kaimaktsalan), at a distance of 3 km from Loutraki and covers an area of 72 acres. The distance that separates Loutra from the ski center of Kaimaktsalan is also short, about 35 km.
The incomparable natural beauty of the location is made up of the lush green forest and the small waterfalls formed by the Thermopotamos river crossing the spa town. The springs spring up at an altitude of 360-390 meters and the water temperature reaches 37 °C. Thermal waters are the result of a natural process in which rainwater seeps deep into the ground where its temperature rises. Then they rise higher rich in minerals and beneficial ingredients The word Pozar is given the interpretation "under the fire" and it is clear that it is related to the above process.
The waters of the thermal springs are known for their therapeutic and beneficial properties and are indicated for a wide range of conditions such as: rheumatoid arthritis, orthopedic problems, skin diseases, gynecological diseases, circulatory and respiratory system problems as well as liver and kidney diseases and the digestive system.
However, the Baths are not only offered for treatment but also for stimulation and recreation. For this reason they attract people of all ages throughout the year. The springs of the Loutraki Baths became officially known as medicinal in 1920, while there is talk of the use of the waters since the time of Alexander the Great. The Baths receive daily visitors not only from the Prefecture of Pella but from all over Greece as well as other European countries such as Bulgaria, Romania and Russia.
